Amplified Opera: A visual identity for a visionary company

Amplified Opera, a new opera/theatre company in Toronto, approached Acme to create a visual identity that would reflect their mission of amplifying diverse voices within the opera community. The challenge was to design a logo that resonated with their commitment to equity-seeking groups while symbolizing innovation and breaking away from traditional opera conventions.

Acme developed a logo that combines multiple symbolic elements—it references a proscenium arch, a geometric diagram of waveform amplification, and the “O” letterform in “Opera” to arrive at a series of radiating concentric circles—this central figure is divided and elevated (amplified) signifying both a break with the past and the amplification of diverse voices that challenge the status quo.

Promotional materials for Amplified Opera’s inaugural concert series: Amplify

Acme was commissioned to design the creative campaign for Amplified Opera’s inaugural 2019 concert series entitled Amplify—A standout feature of the campaign was a suite of concert posters—three unique posters for each of the three performances, each featuring one of the three collaborators behind the production. In addition to the design of the posters Acme art directed and handled all of the photography.
