Notes from the Field was home to collaborative projects about alternative education by Michael Barker and Ariel Fielding. These projects include Alpha Alternative School 1972/2012 and the serial project Fieldwork: Talking with Teachers in Alternative Schools. Alternative education, in the way we understand the term, draws on a range of philosophies outside the educational mainstream, such as free schooling, democratic schooling, and unschooling.
